Chapter 4 - Managers and Reports

You review confirmed Calendar events in the Balance PC Health Managers. The Health Managers let you plan, track, analyze and review the health and personal aspects of your life. You set nutritional targets and your blood glucose target range. You can view and print your reports, and bring trend comparisons with you on your visits to your health professional. Diabetes control is possible when you can manage these four major areas of your health:
  • Diabetes
  • Diet and Weight
  • Exercise
  • Drugs and Symptoms

  • Selecting a Health Manager


  • There are two ways to select a Manager. You can either Click the desired Health Manager icon in the Home Screen, or Select Jump / [health manager name] from the menu bar.


  • Types of Reports


  • Reports consist of tables and graphs of your Calendar Events. Reports are selectable from the Contents screen of a manager. Once you are viewing a report, you can switch to a different time range, or you can print the report. Some reports let you change to other reports without going back to Contents. Only confirmed Events show in reports. If an Event does not appear in a report, check to see if the Event has been confirmed in the Calendar.

    Tables
    Tables list confirmed Calendar Events. You can view most types of Events by tables.

    Graphs
    Graphs show confirmed Calendar Events plotted over time. You can view most types of Events by line or bar graphs. Some graphs give you the option to compare two types of related Events in the same view over the same time range.

    Targets
    Many graphs have a line, or a shaded band, that represents a health goal target, or target range. Targets give visual indicators about how close your actual values are to your goals.

    Changing Report Options
    There are several dropdown buttons that control the information that appears in a report.
      Selecting Data to View
      The first button in the top row shows you what data you are viewing. Some reports allow you to Click this button to select other data. In an exercise graph, for example, you can choose which exercise to view by Clicking this button.
      The report may also have a button just below it (first button - second row) that you can select to choose specific aspects of the data to view . For example, if you view tile exercise skiing, cross-country, you can choose to view Distance or Duration.

      Comparing One Set of Data to Another
      The second button in the second row of some reports shows 'Compare To'. Select this to change the view to a split graph to compare one set of data to a related set of data over the same time range.

      Selecting the Type of Report to View
      The second button in the top row shows you the type of report you are viewing. Some reports allow you to Click this button tot select a different type of report, for example graph, table, and audit.

      Selecting a Time Range
      The third button in the top row of most reports allow you to change the time range for the report that you are viewing, for example day, week. month, quarter, and year.

      Changing to a Different Date
      The fourth button in the top row of most reports allow you to change the date for the report that you are viewing. When you Click this button, a mini selection Calendar appears. Choose the date that you want,, or Click 'Today' to select today's date. A pair of arrows allows you to move to adjacent time ranges. To move backward by one time range, Click the left arrow. To move forward by one time range, Click the right arrow.
    Special Reports
    Some Events are best viewed by combination graphs.
      Daily Analyzer (Diabetes Manager)
      The Daily Analyzer presents several health Events in one report, making trends easy to find, in order to help analyze your daily Events. The daily Events that are displayed include blood glucose levels, insulin and oral medications, symptoms, exercise, and nutrition. You can go to the Daily Analyzer by Clicking 'Daily Analyzer' in the main screen of the Diabetes Manager.

      Modal Day (Diabetes Manager)
      Modal Day shows your blood glucose readings by time of day over the time range that you select: day, week, month, quarter, and year. The gray band indicates your selected target range. The distribution of points indicates how well you are controlling your blood glucose levels - clusters of points within your target range indicate average good control for that time of day. Clusters of points spread outside the target range indicate that more control is needed for that time of day. You can go to Modal Day by Clicking 'Modal Day' in the main screen of the Diabetes Manager.

      Nutrient Audit Graph (Diet & Weight Manager)
      The Nutrient Audit graph is a bar graph of the top five foods that contribute to the total intake of a selected nutrient. Identify foods high in that nutrient over any time period. Use this information when meal planning, in order to make substitutions in your diet - to keep your nutrient totals on target.

      Nutrient Table (Diet & Weight Manager)
      The Nutrient Table report is a table that shows all your meals with the top six nutrients for each food. and selected timeframe, Day or Week. If you view the Day timeframe, you also see the fonts in each meal.


  • Diabetes Manager


  • The Diabetes Manager gives you quick access to all your diabetes-related reports and information. Individual reports and educational resources are available for all the factors related to Diabetes: Blood Glucose (Modal Day, HbA1c, Set Targets), Daily Analyzer, Insulin, Typical Day, Read Meter, Oral Agents, Carbohydrates, Doctor Visits, Complications, Library. The Daily Analyzer graph pulls many of these together in one report.

    Daily Analyzer
    The Daily Analyzer presents several health Events in one report, making trends easy to find, in order to help analyze your daily Events. You can go to the Daily Analyzer by Clicking 'Daily Analyzer' in the main screen of the Diabetes Manager. The Daily Analyzer summarizes all major factors that impact your Blood Glucose level: insulin and oral agents, symptoms, exercise and daily nutrition. The Daily Analyzer lets you monitor related Events so that you can analyze what may he affecting your blood glucose levels. For example, if you notice that your Blood Glucose is always too low after late morning exercise, you may want to make adjustments to your mid - morning snack.
    The top bar of the Daily Analyzer shows Blood Glucose Events that are above your target Blood Glucose range. The middle bar and the bottom bar show Blood Glucose Events that are within and below your target Blood Glucose range, respectively.
    It shows you when you've taken your insulin and it gives you a breakdown of your meals based on carbohydrate, fat, and protein. It also shows you any symptoms that you said you had and the exercises that you did.

    Blood Glucose Reports
    The Blood Glucose graph presents your Blood Glucose levels over the selected time range. Choose all your Blood Glucose readings, or select just one type of reading, such as Pre-Breakfast. Select the 'Compare To' button if you want to view a split graph of any type of reading vs. another type of reading, or All readings, over the same time range. The Blood Glucose table presents your confirmed Blood Glucose levels over a selected time range. Choose all your readings, or select just one type of reading, such as Pre-Breakfast.

    Modal Day
    Modal Day shows your blood glucose readings by time of day over the time range that you select: day, week, month, quarter and year. The gray band indicates your selected target range.     HbA1c
    This report presents a graph of your HbA1c readings over the selected time range. Select the 'Compare To' button to view a split graph of HbA1c vs. Blood Glucose over that time range.

    Set Targets
    To set the Blood Glucose Target Range, Click the Diabetes button in the home Screen, or select Jump / Diabetes from the menu bar to go to the Diabetes Manager. Click the 'Set Targets' button. Click 'OK' when you are done.

    Insulin Reports
    Insulin Reports allow you to view and print your Insulin Events vs. Blood Glucose over the selected time range. Insulin Events are categorized by Injection type in the same way that Blood Glucose Events are separated into Readings. Choose all your Insulin Events, or select just one type, such as Pre-Breakfast. Select the 'Compare To' button if you want to view a split graph of any injection or type vs. Blood Glucose over the same time range. The Insulin table presents all your confirmed Insulin Events over a selected time range.

    Oral Agents
    These reports allow you to view and print your oral agents taken. Choose all your Events or any one type.

    Carbohydrates
    These reports allow you to view and print your carbohydrate intake vs. target.

    Doctor's Visits
    These reports allow you to view and print the occurrence of your confirmed doctor visits.

    Complications
    These reports allow you to view and print the occurrence of certain symptoms which affect people with Diabetes.

    Typical Day
    To set your typical day meals times and bedtime, Click 'Typical Day' in the main Diabetes Manager screen. Typical Day start times are also used to associate the time you take Blood Glucose measurements with Reading names and the time you take insulin injections with Injection names. The Typical Day dialog box allows you to tell Balance PC your normal mealtimes and bedtime. Balance uses this information to:
    You must select a time for Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Bedtime. These entries are required, and must be in chronological order. The time of any meal can be changed directly in the Calendar. See Editing the Name and Time of a Meal in the chapter, Smart Health Calendar.
    You can optionally schedule three snacks a day by checking the box to the left of each snack, and filling in the time. The optional snacks can be deleted on any day even after you set them in your typical day. For example, if your typical day includes a snack at 3 p.m. but you do not eat it one day, you can delete that 3 p.m. snack from the Calendar on that day. You cannot. however, delete Breakfast, Lunch, or Dinner.
    Balance also uses the times that you specify for Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Bedtime to associate Time with Reading or Injection fields in the Blood Glucose and Insulin Event Edit dialog boxes. For more information, see the section Blood Glucose and Insulin Event Dialog Boxes in the chapter, Smart Health Calendar. The association is made as follows:

    Pre-BreakfastFrom 2 hours before Breakfast until BreakfastFrom
    Post-BreakfastBreakfast until midway between Breakfast & Lunch
    Pre-LunchFrom midway between Breakfast and Lunch until Lunch
    Post-LunchFrom Lunch until midway between Lunch and Dinner
    Pre-DinnerFrom midway between Lunch and Dinner until Dinner
    Post-DinnerFrom Dinner until midway between Dinner and Bedtime
    BedtimeFrom midway between Dinner and Bedtime until 2 hours after Bedtime
    NightFrom 2 hours after Bedtime until 2 hours before Breakfast

    Blood Glucose Meter Readings
    Balance can transfer blood glucose readings that are stored in your glucose meter, so that you do not have to enter them manually in the Calendar. The transfer does not affect the settings in the meter. Balance never deletes or modifies any readings stored in your meter. When you transfer your readings again, Balance automatically adds only new readings to your Smart health Calendar. You can read more detailed information in the chapter, Read Meter.


  • Diet & Weight Manager


  • The Diet & Weight Manager helps you track the major aspects of eating well and losing weight. When you open the Diet & Weight Manager, you see a graphic layout of all your nutrition-related reports. It includes a Meal Analyzer, Recipe and Meal Editors. Nutrient graphs, tables, and audits, meal times, and target preferences.

    Food & Nutrition Reports
    Food & Nutrition reports allow you to review and print Events in several ways and indicate your target levels by a line in the graphs. If your actual data is below your target range, it graphs below the dark line.
    You can set nutrient targets and define the display order of the top four nutrients in the Smart Health Calendar as described below.

    Setting User Preferences
    You can set your nutrient targets and set up your preference for the top four nutrients viewed in the Smart Health Calendar.
      Nutrient Settings and Targets
    • Set Targets
      BALANCE PC allow you to set targets for 12 nutrients. Click the target symbol and enter your target figures in the dialog box. Click 'OK' when you have entered your targets. Your health professional can help you identify targets for the nutrients that you should track.
    • Set Display Order
      BALANCE PC allows you to set the display order of' 12 nutrients. Click the list symbol and select the nutrients you want to display. Use the up and down arrow to change the order of the list, moving those nutrients which the most important to you to the top of the list. The top four nutrients are displayed in the Smart Health Calendar as running totals for each food, meal, and day. The top two nutrients are shown in the Foods and My Foods lists within the Calendar. The top six nutrients are shown in the LifeTime Food & Nutrient List and in the Nutrient Table.
    Meal Editor
    You can review a Named Meal, create a new Named Meal, or delete a Named Meal from the fist. For more information, see The Meal Editor in the chapter,

    Recipe Editor
    You can review a Recipe, create a new Recipe, or delete a Recipe from the list. For more information, see The Recipe Editor in the chapter, Smart Health Calendar.


  • Exercise Manager


  • The Exercise Manager allows you to view and print Exercise reports and to read educational topics in the Library.


  • Drugs & Symptoms Manager


  • The Drugs & Symptoms Manager allows you to view and print Drugs & Symptoms reports and to read educational topics in the Library.
